Set in Chicago’s South Side in the 1950’s, A Raisin in the Sun revolves around the divergent dreams and conflicts within three generations of the Younger family, and their struggle to achieve a better life for themselves. Each member of the family has a different version of what that might be, and a large insurance check could be the key to achieving their goals. The play explores what happens when dreams are pushed out of reach time and time again, and is inspired by Langston Hughes’s poem, “ Harlem (A Dream Deferred).”
