Black History Exhibit at the Woodridge Public Library

The Harris Family’s Black History Exhibit will return to the Woodridge Public Library Sunday.

The exhibit will be in the library lobby from 1 to 5 p.m.  

Van Harris and his wife Barbara are Woodridge residents. For many years Van and his family members (who come from all over the United States to participate) have been bringing this unique collection of items to the Library to share with the public.

This year will bring a new exhibit on the Black and Red Experience Through History, as well as other updated exhibits. Those other exhibits include farm tools and other artifacts from the Harris Family Farm in Mississippi. There will be old and contemporary African Art.

Information will be available on Buffalo Soldiers, Black Pioneers and Black Indians as well as a display of Indian jewelry and other artifacts.

The role of Mennonites, Amish and Quakers in the Underground Railroad will be highlighted. The Amish exhibit will include a collection of their farm tools as well. The Harris exhibit includes a very interesting display on Madame C. J. Walker, the first black female millionaire in the United States.
