During the month of January the Woodridge Public Library will present GiGi's Playhouse the "I Have a Voice" photographic project.
The "I Have a Voice" project gives individuals with Down syndrome an opportunity and vehicle to relate their stories. The traveling gallery is a collection of portraits of children and adult's with Down syndrome. For more information on GiGi's Playhouse visit http://www.gigisplayhouse.org.
The mission of GiGi's Playhouse Down syndrome awareness centers is to increase positive awareness of Down syndrome through national campaigns, educational programs, and by empowering individuals with Down syndrome, their families and the community. Nancy Gianni, founder of GiGi's Playhouse, a nonprofit organization dedicated to Down syndrome awareness, named after her daughter, GiGi. It began as a local Playhouse in a Chicago suburb that has since gone international, helping to spread awareness and inspiration to everyone.

All of their programs are free and are therapeutic in nature. Each of them is designed to work on specific skill development in several areas including speech and language, social development, and fine and gross motor skills. The "I Have a Voice" awareness campaign strives to change outdated perceptions replacing them with beautiful and intelligent images.
The display is available for viewing during normal Library hours.
