Christina Farsalas, social studies teacher at Thomas Jefferson Junior High School in Woodridge School District 68, was recently awarded the Smart/Maher VFW Citizenship Education Teacher Award by Woodridge VFW Post 1578. The VFW Teacher of the Year award contest recognizes our nation’s top teachers for their exceptional commitment to teaching Americanism and patriotism to their students by promoting civic responsibility, flag etiquette and patriotism in the classroom.

When asked about being named Woodridge VFW Teacher of the Year, Ms. Farsalas said, “I am very honored to be chosen as VFW Teacher of the Year. It means so much to be recognized by this organization as it strengthens my drive to continue my commitment to teaching citizenship to my students and encouraging their patriotism and love of country.”

Representatives from Woodridge VFW Post 1578, school staff, and district administration were in attendance for the presentation of this award. As the Woodridge VFW Post 1578 Teacher of the Year, Ms. Farsalas’ nomination will now advance to the district level.
