Downers Grove, IL ---- Gloria Dei Lutheran Church will launch a new weekly Sunday contemporary Worship Service on March 2nd, 2014. For the first time in recent history Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Downers Grove will offer a full contemporary service at 9:43 every week. Why 9:43? 9:43 is based on the bible verse Luke 9:43
Which says “and the people were all amazed at the majesty and glory of God.” 9:43 is also a playful way to help people remember when worship begins, 9:43 a.m.
Senior Pastor Tim Robertson has been at Gloria Dei Lutheran church a little over one year now and is excited to see the vision of a new contemporary service being added to the Sunday schedule. Robertson describes the service as "Family friendly worship for the de-churched and unchurched." The contemporary service uses media, internet clips, skits and creative pop culture elements to illustrate the sermon visually and create a worship experience that engages all the senses.

For the past 6 months Gloria Dei has been offering this service style once a month and it quickly has become the most popular and largest attended service. This shift in worship style reflects the changing trends in growing congregations nationwide to reach out to new families and unchurched individuals in the community. The 9:43 a.m. Sunday service will offer worship with a relevant inspiring message and a contemporary, casual and modern feel with upbeat worship songs to add to the intended casual/come-as-you-are style of the worship, the service will not be held in the traditional sanctuary but instead in the Fellowship Hall area for a more comfortable relaxed atmosphere. Similarly dress is casual – come as you are - and children of all ages are welcome.
Gloria Dei will still continue to offer 4 other services weekly including 6pm on Saturday & 7:30am spoken word services, Sunday 8:30am traditional service and an 11am blended service. This provides many different options for the 1200 members it serves.
