Odor At 75th And Janes Believed To Be 'Petroleum-Based'
Woodridge officials continue to investigate an odor noticed by residents in the area of 75th Street and Janes Avenue Wednesday night.

WOODRIDGE, IL - Several residents made calls to village officials in Woodridge Wednesday night informing them of an odor detected in the neighborhood south of 75th Street and Janes Avenue. A multi-jurisdiction investigation followed with a determination that the odor is suspected to be "petroleum-based," according to a news release from the village.
Monitoring from the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District indicated that reading levels in the sanitary sewer at the southwest corner of 75th and Janes were dropping as early as Wednesday night, and that the primary area of the odor was condensed to residences in just that part of the intersection. The levels were far below what would be considered as dangerous, according to the village.
An environmental remediation contractor has been applying a treatment and flushing the sanitary line throughout the night to remove the existing contamination, the release stated. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and Office of the State Fire Marshall will be continue to investigate the exact cause of the issue.
