Rocky Horror cast Completely Crazy raises thousands for Oct. 30 costumed charity 5K

Rocky Horror cast Completely Crazy, of Woodridge's Hollywood Blvd cinema, have raised $2500 for acharity 5K for Family Shelter Service.

[Downers Grove] Two Rocky Horror amateur performing groups, Completely Crazy of Woodridge and Help Me Mommy of Hobart, Indiana, are teaming up to raise money as "Team Rocky Horror" in the annual “Heroes for Hope” 5K in Downers Grove October 30 at Midwestern University. The walk benefits Family Shelter Service, a DuPage County domestic violence shelter, and the group will arrive at the event just hours after doing their Halloween shows. The team will walk in full Rocky Horror costumes and makeup, swapping high heels for sneakers. Completely Crazy is celebrating their fifth year in the walk and have raised nearly $20,000 for the charity through 2015. Teaming up with Help Me Mommy they hope to keep their perfect record of top fundraising team for the event. Every year the group works with Rocky Horror fans around the country to raise $4,711, a number that appears in the Rocky Horror film. The team’s fundraising page is: http://fss.donorpages.com/WalkRun/CompletelyCrazy/

The team collected donations from casts across the country at a national "RKO" Rocky Horror convention in August and members have been touring Rocky Horror showings in neighboring states (as far as Michigan and Ohio) to support the charity, in addition to collecting donations from fans as far away in Germany, France and the United Kingdom, in addition to donations from their regular weekly audience.

Many of the cast members have walked several years; team leader Audrey Fontaine is walking for her fourth year, and Colleen Heitlage is joining the group for her fifth year.

Completely Crazy has been acting out Rocky Horror in Chicagoland movie theaters since 1990, with midnight shows at the Hollywood Blvd theater in Woodridge since 2004. Help Me Mommy has been in Hobart since 2008 and performs at the Art Theatre in downtown Hobart. Audience members are encouraged to come to the show in costume and sing and dance along with the show. “Virgins” (people who have never seen the film in a theater) –are brought onstage to perform silly acts as part of the preshow festivities. The casts sell “prop kits” so audience members can enjoy the full Rocky Horror experience, throwing toast, wearing party hats, and shouting at the film.

The two groups have participated in local charity endeavors for years, including the Oakbrook Terrace Fight For Air for the American Lung Association (Completely Crazy), and the Relay for Life (Help Me Mommy).

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is an American classic. Film screenings feature live performance by costumed casts and audience participation. The rock musical B-movie spoof has run continuously in the US since 1975 and is best known for popular dance number "The Time Warp." The film is rated R for adult situations, and much of the shouted audience participation includes adult language.
