Seniors Experience the Oscar Treatment at Hollywood Blvd.

The Woodridge Park District hosted its annual Oscar Movie Madness party Friday.

Seniors had the chance to experience a day at the Oscars as they dressed up, had their photos taken and took a walk down the red carpet Friday.

The and the Active Adult Program hosted the Oscar Movie Madness Party at . The event allowed those 55 years and older the opportunity to socialize, eat lunch and watch, “The King’s Speech,” which was awarded Best Picture Sunday night.

Nancy Harring, senior coordinator for the Woodridge Park District, said this is the second year the event has been held.

Last year, the party was held at the Park District's Community Center, but Harring said this year, Hollywood Blvd. was chosen to add to the overall feeling of the Oscars.

“It’s such a fantastic location since all the theatres have a theme,” Harring said. “The theatre chosen is called the gold theatre, and it’s geared towards the Oscars and it’s perfect.”

When the seniors arrived to the theatre, they received a small, plastic martini glass filled with bite-sized candies to enjoy during the show. From there, they had their photos snapped as they walked down the red carpet.

Helanie Kos, of Darien, attended the event to meet and catch up with some of her friends. She said she plans on attending all the events that the Park District offers. This is her second time attending.

“It’s a fun event,” Kos said. “Once you start going, you will develop friendships, and it’s something to do.”

Irene Foody, of Woodridge, said she was excited to take part in the event since it’s a different experience for seniors to participate in.

Lisle resident and first-time attendee Jeane Herrman dressed up for the afternoon and said she was happy to return to the theatre because she enjoyed the overall atmosphere.

“I’ve been here before, and I enjoyed the concept of eating lunch and seeing a movie,” Herrman said. “It is also very fun to do."
