Six Sensational Water Parks In Chicago's Western Suburbs

Chicago's western suburbs is home to several family-friendly water parks that offer roaring wave pools, serpentine slides and huge hot tubs.

Memorial Day has passed and most kids are out of school, so it’s the perfect time to start planning some summer fun. Water parks in the western suburbs are open for the season, so residents don’t have to worry about driving far to find a place to zoom down water slides or lounge in a lazy river. Here are several water parks in the western suburbs that we think you should add to your summer itinerary.

Raging Waves Waterpark, Yorkville

Raging Waves is billed as the largest water park in Illinois and it’s easy to see why when you visit. The park is loaded with waterslides, including several twisting body slides with tunnels and a two-person tube slide where riders accelerate to up to 40 mph. The park’s newest attraction is Wonambi, a massive multi-person tube slide with a series of sharp turns and fast spirals. Raging Waves also features a 25,000 square foot wave pool and a winding lazy river. Kids can play in an oversized sandbox and cross a rope bridge as dump buckets and water cannons try to thwart their advances at the Kangaroo Falls ride. There are also several places to grab a bite at the waterpark when you need to refuel.

Splash Station, Joliet

Joliet’s Splash Station water park offers lots of ways to cool off during the summer. With a 250,000 gallon zero-depth entry pool, a lazy river and open and enclosed slides, it’s an ideal weekend getaway in the western suburbs. The piece de resistance at Splash Station is a 200 foot six-person water slide that riders zoom down headfirst. The park’s dining car café serves burgers, walking tacos and other snacks. Root beer floats and TCBY frozen yogurt help patrons stay cool.

Paradise Bay Waterpark, Lombard

Lombard’s colorful Paradise Bay Waterpark fills features a speed slide, a bowl slide and a 12-foot diving well. Avid swimmers can work out in the eight-lane lap pool, which also has amenities for water basketball and water volleyball. Paradise Bay also has a zero-depth entry leisure pool for adults with fountains and a whirlpool where you can lay back and catch some sun. The facility also includes a concession stand and lockers.

Cypress Cove Family Aquatic Park, Woodridge

Set on seven sunlit acres, Cypress Cove Family Aquatic Park is packed with water activities for the whole family. From the 10 foot drop slide to the 600 foot long lazy river, this western suburbs water park has a variety of amenities. Smaller kids can play in a sandy area and splash down their own water slide. Cypress Cove also features a concessions area and an entertainment stage for live music performances.

Pelican Harbor Indoor/Outdoor Waterpark, Bolingbrook

Bolingbrook’s Pelican Harbor Indoor/Outdoor Waterpark is open year-round, but the best time to visit is during the summer when you can conquer all of this west suburban park’s attractions. Outside, visitors can zoom down four speed slides, chill out on the lazy river or play a game of beach volleyball. An interactive “sprayground” and a sand playground area will keep kids busy too. Inside, the facility has even more waterslides, a 10-person hot tub and a heated lap pool.

Sea Lion Aquatic Park, Lisle

Flume slides, a vortex pool and a spa area for grownups are some of the fun attractions featured at Sea Lion Aquatic Park. There’s a designated area where kids can play in the sand or splash around amid spurting fountains. Many people like to visit Sea Lion on “Flick ‘n Float” nights, when visitors can take in a movie on a giant screen while they lounge in the water. This year, the park will also host a cardboard boat regatta and after hours swimming with DJ music for middle school students.
