Students May Access eBook Libraries Using iPads

Find new books with 3M Cloud, Axis 360, Follett Shelf and Overdrive.

It’s never been easier for students to find a good book, thanks to a unique partnership between Downers Grove Grade School District 58 and the Downers Grove Public Library.

All District 58 students – even those who are not Downers Grove residents – may now access the Downers Grove Public Library’s entire 3M Cloud Library collection using their iPad. To access this option, follow these steps:

  1. Select the “3M Cloud Library” icon on your child’s iPad. (Don’t have it? Download it for free in the App Store.)
  2. Tap “Connect to my library”, and then click “United States”, “Illinois” and “Downers Grove Grade School District 58”.
  3. Enter your child’s library card ID, which is their student number. It begins with “dg” and is followed by six digits.

You may now browse and check out thousands of titles from the District’s and library’s 3M collections! Please be aware that the Downers Grove Public Library collection contains some titles that may be inappropriate for children. As always, please monitor your child’s activities on their iPad, including their use of eBooks.

In addition to the 3M Cloud Library, students may also access Axis 360, Follett Shelf and Overdrive. These are all free eBook collections.

Follett E-Shelf: The District purchased several eBooks from its catalog provider, Follett. Students may search and download these books by following these steps:

  1. Find the Follett “BryteWave” app on your student’s iPad. It will ask for your school’s FollettShelf. If you do not know it, please contact your school’s LRC director.
  2. Log in with your student ID number and password.
  3. In order to download a book, the student must first “check it out.”

Overdrive: The Downers Grove, Westmont and Oak Brook public libraries participate in Overdrive, another eBook collection. If you belong to one of these libraries, select this app on your child’s iPad and enter your child’s library card information to access this eBook collection.

Please remember that the above e-book collections may contain books that are inappropriate for children. As always, please monitor your child’s activities on their iPad, including their use of eBooks.

Families who need help accessing eBooks may contact their school’s LRC director for assistance.
