West Suburban Community Pantry Hosts 25th Anniversary Gala

Woodridge, IL 2/1/17 – West Suburban Community Pantry is celebrating 25 years of providing food and resources to people struggling with hunger at their annual Spring Spectacular Gala being held April 7th at the Hilton Lisle/Naperville. The event will honor how the pantry has grown from 1992, when the organization served 1,000 people per month, to 2017 serving 4,000 people per month at its high point.

“As we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the West Suburban Community Pantry, we’re reminded that even though the world around us has advanced rapidly the sad reality of poverty and hunger still exists for far too many families in our community,” says Pantry Board Member and Co-Founder Barbara Schmith. Schmith started the pantry with her husband Roger in a closet at St. Scholastica Church in Woodridge. The pantry has grown over time to meet the changing need in the area. In fact, nearly 10% of DuPage County residents don’t know where or if they will find their next meal.

About West Suburban Community Pantry

The West Suburban Community Pantry traces its roots to a small pantry dating back to the 1970s. In 1992, the Pantry was incorporated and obtained its 501(c)(3) status in response to the growing need to feed the hungry in the western suburbs of Illinois.

The Pantry operates year-round with a goal that each eligible family receives nutritionally balanced food, including meats, dairy, and fresh produce monthly.
