DOWNERS GROVE, IL -- For more than 40 years, the West Suburban Humane Society (WSHS) has operated out of a single-family home that was adapted into an animal shelter. The shelter is set break ground on a new 8,300 square foot facility in mid-May, but in the meantime, they're asking residents to donate to a GoFundMe account created to give their new vision an "extra push."

According to a news release, the funds will aid the humane society in moving out of its "deteriorating building" and into a shelter "designed to provide dignity and safety for the animals while also attracting more visitors for adoption and public education.

West Suburban Humane Society plans to build the new shelter adjacent to its current building. The humane society currently owns the land on which the new shelter will be built, having purchased the two adjacent lots "years ago" in what its website calls a "strategic and fiscally responsible decision."
