Westmont Firefighters Aid Dog After House Fire

Fire officials gave oxygen to the pup after it had been taken out of the apartment to safety.

WESTMONT, IL — The Westmont Fire Department responded to a fire in an apartment Thursday morning and were able to help a dog out in the aftermath. No civilians or firefighters were injured in the blaze, but a "sweet old puppy" was in need of oxygen and Westmont Firemedic Kehoe was there to help, according to the department's Facebook post.

According to a preliminary investigation, the fire appears to have been caused by cooking grease, fire officials say. They also shared a link to information about how to prevent kitchen fires, which are commonly caused by unattended cooking.
