“What does community mean to You?”

Inspired by painter Charles McGee, patrons and staff have created a striking Community Artwork, on display in the Woodridge Public Library’s lobby, February 9 through 28 during Black History Month. Visitors can answer the question “What does community mean to You?” with a note, drawing, or word to help create a second art piece inspired by the African American painter McGee, famous for his sculpture, murals, and paintings inspired by nature, equality, and community.
Patrons painted and created visually interesting art pieces at a Family Art Studio event on February 3 at the Woodridge Public Library. Participants focused on the texture and pattern of McGee’s work to create individual components that were then assembled to create a one-of-a-kind work that reflects the spirit of McGee.
Images and quotes from the artist are on display along with the art, including “When we all work together, we understand more. We tolerate more. We live better lives because we are talking about being moved by togetherness.” The art is on display and open for public viewing during the library’s normal hours of operation.
