Woman Who Won 1st Illinois Lottery Wins $1 Million In Woodridge

Carol Vymetal, who won $1 million in the St. Patrick's Day lottery, scored $1,500 when the lottery held its first drawing in 1974.

WOODRIDGE, IL— It's more likely to get struck by lightning than it is to win the lottery, but for one Woodridge woman, the lottery actually struck twice. Carol Vymetal, who won $1,500 when the Illinois Lottery held its first drawing in 1974, just won $1 million in the lottery's St. Patrick's Day Millionaire Raffle.

What's her secret? Pure luck, she told Daily Herald. She said she plays weekly, but doesn't use special dates or numbers. She's just that lucky.

Vymetal purchased her big winning ticket (well, the second big one) at Leo's Wine and Spirits in Woodridge.
