Woodridge Karate Instructor Wins Silver Medal in Karate Championship

Sensei Skylar Lingl, an Illinois Shotokan Karate instructor who teaches at the Woodridge Park District, competed in 2024 Karate World Cup

(Illinois Shotokan Karate)

Sensei Skylar Lingl, an Illinois Shotokan Karate instructor who teaches at the Woodridge Park District, won a silver medal at the Karate World Cup in Spain on November 26. Skylar competed with the USA Karate Women’s Team, which included her sister and training partner Cirrus Lingl and two other women. According to USA Karate, they are the first U.S. team to reach the kumite finals in this prestigious competition.

It’s rare to find an instructor with this level of experience in a local program, and Sensei Skylar Lingl’s Woodridge students have the opportunity to learn from a world-class athlete. Sensei Skylar teaches karate on Monday evenings at the Fred C. Hohnke Community Center with the next session of all karate classes beginning January 6.

Congratulations to Sensei Skylar Lingl and the USA Karate Women’s Team!
