Woodridge Man Arrested for Remodeling Scam

Investigators found David L. Briggs spent remodeling money and didn't complete any projects.

Villa Park police arrested a Woodridge man for spending money paid by an elderly man for a remodeling project that wasn’t completed.

David L. Briggs, age 29, is charged with felony theft by deception (over $100,000) and felony theft by deception (victim over 60), according to Villa Park police.

The family of a 79-year-old Villa Park man contacted police in December about the financial exploitation. They reported that the elderly man came in contact with Briggs, who claimed to own a remodeling company called Intrella Industries, according to police.

The family reported Briggs agreed to complete remodeling projects at the elderly man’s home. The family was contacted by the elderly man’s bank to notify them of several suspicious payments made to Briggs.

Villa Park police interviewed Briggs and subpoenaed his bank accounts. Investigators found Briggs spent the money and didn’t complete any remodeling.

The total loss to the victim is about $117,000. Briggs was taken to the DuPage County Jail on a $500,000 bond
