Woodridge, IL – The Woodridge Police Department today announced the launch of a Safe Internet Purchase Exchange Zone located at the Police Department and Public Works Lobby at 1 Plaza Drive in Woodridge. Available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. during regular business hours, the Safe Internet Purchase Exchange Zone addresses safety concerns related to internet-based purchases. The Exchange Zone is under constant video surveillance to enhance safety.
“Websites such as Craigslist, OfferUp, eBay, Nextdoor, and Facebook Marketplace provide great opportunities to buy or sell goods,” said Detective Michael Reed. “However, those with criminal intentions may also use these sites. People should continue to be cautious when corresponding with buyers or sellers that are strangers.”
The goals of the Safe Internet Exchange Zone is to provide a safe environment for the exchange or merchandise between private parties. The Woodridge Police Department will not act in any capacity as an official witness or broker for any transaction. It does not extend to transactions involving the sale of any contraband or prohibited services. There is no need to make an appointment – people can simply meet and conduct their sales transaction.
