Woodridge Police Department Open House Brings Community, Cops Together
Kids got police training and a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the Woodridge Police Department at a recent open house.
WOODRIDGE, IL — Have you ever wondered what a police radar would clock your fastball at? Kids got a chance to find out the answer to this question when they had a sneak peek into the world of their local police force during the Woodridge Police Department's open house. The event, which took place on August 1 included informative talks from police officers, fun games, and interactive demonstrations.
"Junior officers" were able to throw their fastest pitches to see how radar detectors measure speed. Detectives also walked Woodridge Park District campers and community members through the finer points of finger printing as one of the educational presentations at the Woodridge PD open house. Tactical and traffic units were also on hand for informative discussions and demonstrations that included seeing how squad cars and prison transport systems work.
With all their training in hand, kids had a great photo opp as they stepped behind a cardboard cutout and "became" a police officer.
