Woodridge Police Release Video About What Happens To Unlocked Cars
After car burglaries nearly doubled in 2016, Woodridge Police has released a PSA video urging residents to lock their cars.
WOODRIDGE, IL — The Woodridge Police's "Lock Your Car; It's The Key" campaign is in full force with a video PSA that starkly warns residents of the dangers of leaving cars unlocked and unattended. Car burglaries increased by 88% in Woodridge in 2016. 65% of those burglaries were to cars that had been left unlocked.
The burglary problem in Woodridge is part of an overall surge in vehicle burglaries throughout DuPage County that led Undersheriff Frank Bibbiano to release his own PSA about car burglaries. The DuPage County Sheriff's Department believes these crimes are being committed by teens and young adults who specifically seek out cars that are easy to get into.
With its "Lock Your Car; It's The Key" campaign, Woodridge Police Department seeks to keep community members vigilant to help decrease the incidence of car burglaries in the village. Similar crimes have also dramatically risen in other nearby communities, including Glen Ellyn and Wheaton.
