For the second year, participants at the August 17th Woodridge Rotary Mini Triathlon selected one of six organizations for charitable giving as they registered. Five dollars is given by the Rotary Club for each selection by a person registering for the event.

And for the second year, Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer organization received the most participant votes with 320 people clicking on that name to donate $5 of their registration fee. Bear Necessities will receive $1600 from Woodridge Rotary Club. Next in order of votes and donations: Family Shelter Services, 183 votes, $915; Dupage Habitat for Humanity, 123 votes, $615; West Suburban Community Pantry, $110 votes, $550; SEASPAR, 102 votes, $510; and Hope’s Front Door, 28 votes, $140.

The 15th annual race event was deemed a success again by Race Director Mike Adams. 805 participated, which is 25 people more than in 2013. Six states were represented, with Oregon being the most distant state sending a participant. The local town with the most registrants (12%) was Downers Grove, while 11.5% were from Woodridge. More women (53%) than men (46%) rose to the challenge. Half of those who returned their surveys said it was their first time at the event, and most of those people would recommend it to others.
