Alleged Threat at Yorkville School 'Completely False'

The district is asking parents to help stop the spread of rumors on social media.

YORKVILLE, IL — Rumors over an alleged threat by a student intending to harm others has been proven to be “completely false.”

Yorkville Community Unit School District 115 Director of Communications & Community Engagement Kristine Liptrot said rumors began circulating last week over the unfounded threat.

“At no time was there a viable threat to the security of students or staff at YHS,” she said in a news release. “An investigation by YHS administration and Yorkville Police has shown these rumors to be completely false.”

Still, “irresponsible posts” on social media have resulted in harming the reputation of an innocent student, Liptrot said.

The District asks for parents' assistance to help stop the rumors from continuing so there is no further disruption to the school community. Despite the unsubstantiated claim, the school has coordinated with the Yorkville Police Department to increase the police presence on the YHS campus to ensure students in the building feel safe.

“All threats to the school are taken very seriously, and students are encouraged to share any viable concern to school safety with school administration or a trusted adult,” Liptrot said.
