Kendall Sheriff's Sergeant Accused Of Driving 120 MPH: Police

YORKVILLE, IL — The Kendall County Sheriff's Office released a statement Wednesday just hours after a Yorkville Police Department officer pulled over an off-duty Kendall County Sheriff's Office Patrol Sergeant for speeding, police said. According to a Yorkville police report, Mark W. Bunting, 38, of Plainfield, is accused of driving his personal vehicle at 120 mph around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday in a 45 mph speed zone on northbound Route 47, just south of Colonial Parkway.

According to a Yorkville police report, the officer arrested Bunting after observing him driving and speeding at more than 35 mph over the speed limit.

Bunting was charged with a class A misdemeanor speeding violation, according to police.

The Kendall County Sheriff's Office released the following statement Wednesday:

"As soon as the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office became aware of the situation, appropriate steps were taken to address the alleged violation and initiate an inquiry into the incident. The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office is committed to the citizens we serve and hold our employees to the highest of standards."

Yorkville police said the vehicle was towed and Bunting was later released from the scene with a mandatory court date in Kendall County.

The sheriff's office added that the patrol sergeant has been placed on administrative assignment pending the results of an internal investigation.
