YORKVILLE, IL — A Yorkville man was taken into custody Friday afternoon after someone reported him to be armed and making threats while in a public space, police said.
Yorkville police were dispatched to the 1300 block of Marketplace Drive at about 1:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a man who donned body armor and was carrying two guns as he walked around a public area while making threats to harm specific people, officials said Monday.
Officers found the man and identified him as 54-year-old William Simpson Jr. Police said Simpson complied with officers' commands and was taken into custody without incident.
Simpson, of the 1300 block of Marketplace Drive, told police he got into a disagreement with a roommate who invited someone to their residence whom he did not want there. He then armed himself in anticipation of a confrontation with the visitor, he said, according to a news release.
Following the investigation, police took Simpson to the Kendall County jail, where he was booked on two counts of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon.
Simpson was released from jail after a pre-trial detention hearing Saturday afternoon. His next court date is scheduled for July 21.
