DeKALB, IL — A DeKalb man was taken into custody in Chicago on a warrant for an attempted murder charge tied to a stabbing stemming from an altercation that occurred after the man was seen harassing children on a basketball court, police said.
Paris M. Craig, 41, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery, according to police.
Officers responded around 5:30 p.m. Sept. 25 to the 900 block of Ridge Drive in DeKalb for a person stabbed in the neck, police said. The victim said he had had an altercation with Craig, who was harassing children on the court, according to police. The verbal altercation turned violent when Craig tried to punch the victim, missed, then swung a knife at the victim, striking his neck, police said.
The victim was taken to Northwestern Medicine Kiskwaukee Hospital, then brought to Javon Bea Hospital for advanced medical care, according to police, who said Craig fled on foot.
Police corroborated a description of the attacker using video from cameras in the area and repeatedly but unsuccessfully tried to find Craig at his DeKalb home, authorities said. They also issued a nationwide warrant for his arrest, according to police.
Chicago police contacted DeKalb law enforcement on Wednesday and reported that they had taken Craig into custody, according to authorities, who said that the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office went to Chicago and brought Craig to the DeKalb County jail to await a detention hearing.
