Hoover Forest Preserve Open House Saturday

The issued the following news release:

Come out and see the ‘new’ Hoover Forest Preserve on June 11 from 10 am to noon!  For the past two years the Kendall County Forest Preserve District has been busy improving this former boy scout camp.  Buildings have been renovated, trails improved, overlook decks added, campsites upgraded, and much more!

Hoover Forest Preserve is nearly 400 acres along the Fox River just west of Yorkville.  The river bluffs, wooded ravines, and open fields make it a great place to enjoy the outdoors.  In 2010 renovations were completed on four buildings at Hoover.  Three are bunkhouses that sleep between 32-48 people and are available for rental.  The fourth is The Rookery, where most of the Forest Preserve District’s education programs are centered.

For the past year the District has been working on site improvements.  Most of these are part of a project partially funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.  A section of multi-use trail now connects Hoover to Yorkville’s Crawford Park.  Overlook decks provide excellent views of the Fox River.  New family and group tent campsites are nestled in the woodlands.  Parking and restroom facilities are also new.

Throw in other improvements such as upgrading existing picnic shelters, removing dilapidated structures, and developing the Neshnabe’k Native American Village and it has been quite a busy stretch at Hoover!
