Sandwich, IL – Former Sandwich Police Chief, Rick Olson, today announced his candidacy for the Mayor of Sandwich. The election will take place on April 9, 2013. Olson, who has served the City of Sandwich for 16 years, cites his desire to promote a spirit of cooperation between city government and the community's businesses and organizations as one of his primary platform issues.
“If Sandwich is going to prosper, our community needs to work together towards that common goal,” stated Olson. “I believe the spirit of cooperation should start at city hall.”
Prior to moving to Sandwich, Olson was a graduate of the FBI National Academy, served 20 years on the Rochelle police force and worked his way up from a patrolman to a lieutenant.
“I have lived in several different communities but I truly consider Sandwich my home and I would like to continue my service to this great city,” said Olson.
Olson's commitment to Sandwich includes serving on the 911 Board, Church Council Member for Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Sandwich, long time volunteer for the Franklin Mall Project, founding member of the D.A.R.E program in Sandwich and assisting many organizations with their fundraising efforts including Sandwich Education Foundation, Fox Valley Older Adult Services, Open Door, Sandwich Area Chamber of Commerce, Individual Advocacy Group, Sandwich Band Association, Freedom Days and Relay For Life among others.
Citizens that would like to speak with the candidate may do so at the Sandwich Halloween Walk, Saturday, October 27, noon to 2pm. Olson will be stationed at the Veteran's Park Gazebo (151 E Railroad St, Sandwich) for anyone who would like to discuss issues concerning them.
