Aurora Accepting Applications for 911 Operator

Job starts at $23.75 per hour. Applicants must apply in person at City of Aurora through May 29.

If you’re looking for a job that provides excitement and a chance to make a difference in the community, the City of Aurora is accepting applications for the position telecommunications operator I, or 911 dispatcher, in the Aurora Police Department.

Job responsibilities include:

  • operating a two-way radio/telephone to dispatch emergency personnel
  • data entry
  • tallying calls
  • maintaining shift logs through a computer-aided dispatch system
  • operates the law enforcement agencies data systems (LEADS) and National Crime Information center (NCIC) terminals, TTD and TTY equipment
  • performs general clerical duties

Applicants must be able to complete licensing requirements, speak clearly, work in a stressful environment and multitask. Dispatchers will be required to work rotating shifts during training, and second or third shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Other requirements include typing 40 WPM, passing a job simulation, polygraph and psychological test, background investigation and meeting physical requirements. Passing the typing test is required before applicants can advance to the job simulation test.

The starting hourly rate is $23.75/hr. The position offers an excellent benefit package, including health, dental and life.

Applications are being taken through May 29. Office hours are 8 a,m, to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The typing and job simulation tests will be scheduled at the time of application.
