Number 10 of our "12 Different Exercises for 12 Days of Fitness"!

Add a little cardio to burn off those holiday treats!! Exercise # 10

It’s important to get your heart rate up on a regular basis. Not only is it a key factor in burning fat, it makes your heart healthy, and is good for your blood pressure, bones, brain, blood sugar and more-how cool is that?

I like to use this basic step touch with clients because it can be adapted to any fitness level! Keep it low or rev it up!

For an easy to do cardio, begin by stepping out wide with the right foot and then bringing the left foot to tap next to the right…ya know….a step touch. Now step out left and bring the right foot over to tap next to the left. Now….this a very loooow level cardio so unless you have some prohibitive health issue of you, should at least be swinging your arms out to the sides or overhead.

To increase the intensity turn that tap into a hop so you are hopping side to side. The bigger the hop the bigger the cardio! Ya gotta work up a sweat!!

Increase the level again by tapping the inside foot behind the weight bearing foot as you hop. Kinda like a speed skater! Don’t forget to swing your arms overhead or forward because that will increase the intensity even more! Put some energy into it!!!

Do this for 30-60 seconds and then move onto a strength exercise, repeat the step touch, then do another strength move, and on and on for a simple interval workout!

OR….add a few more 30-60 second cardio moves (jumping jacks. knee lifts, jog in place) then repeat the entire sequence for a longer cardio workout!

Burn off those holiday cookies, my friend!!
