Post H - An anniversary post; How Rob and Katie met.
Rob and Katie celebrate their anniversary with a disagreement on their Patch blog.
Today is a special blog post. Why? You ask. Well it (7-8-11) is our 6th anniversary! Although Rob and I have only been married for 6 years we have known each other for 10. When we first met is something we disagree on, so I thought it might be fun to do a blog post on that! Hapidee AnideeVersideree Handsome!

Rob and I met when I was 15 and he was 20. He was close friends with one of my friends and they went to see a play I was in. I played the character Flame, a part that had been written in for me. I wore rainbow tights, a black mini skirt, a tiny yellow tank top, tall black boots, and had my hair dyed to fit my character. I looked awesome. Our friend introduced us and Rob said not a word but stood there looking bored. It was maybe a 5 minute interaction.
The first time we really spoke was at the Yorkville fireworks that July. Rob was with that same friend who I was flirting with pretty heavily while Rob played wingman. Shortly after that we hung out and got ice cream and the rest, as they say, is history.

Katie and I met when my best buddy John and I headed to Countryside (which was still Countryside at the time) to watch fireworks one year, probably 2000 or 2001. He said “I have a friend who lives right there.” I have a thing for blondes, and Katie had a blonde friend with her whom, frankly, I thought was older.

I was alright with that. If John wanted to be involved with the cute 15 year old – fine. I’m going to chat up the blonde and see what happens (Katie and Jenny still talk sometimes, and if you’re reading this Jenny – I’m sorry.)
The whole thing disturbs me now. I had no idea they were both 15. I was 20 freaking years old. I smoked cigarettes, drove a car, and had a job. We just sat in the grass and watched fireworks.

Not only were John and Katie giggling and carrying on, but the blonde had nothing to say. (She was 15, and I was tattooed. She probably was as creeped out then as I am writing this now.) I thought it was pretty lame times. I was just happy for my buddy (who was 18 at the time) that he was doing well with Katie.
I was surprised, then, when I got a voice message about a month later. I had made a deal with Katie that if John didn’t end up asking her out, I’d take her for an ice cream cone. The contents of the voice message consisted of Katie simply repeating over and over, “Iiiiiice cream… Iiiiiiiiiice creeeeaam…”
Now Katie’s my beautiful bride. And at 30, her being 25, I feel like it’s much less creepy when we hang out. But I like to say “It started at the fireworks.” Even if Katie only talked to me for 10 minutes the whole evening. There are times now where Katie will talk to me for 10 minutes all day. Those times always remind me of the fireworks where we met.
Aww, isn't that cute. The first major disagreement between Rob and Katie in this blog series. Which of them is right? Tell us in the comments.
