Shopping Local: Legends Bar and Grill

I’m a bit of a French fry snob.  I know that they aren’t good for me, and it’s not something I indulge in often.  But sometimes nothing compares to the crunch of a perfectly done French fry, well seasoned with just the right amount of salt. 

And my completely unofficial, totally biased, non-scientific opinion of the very best French fries in Yorkville?  at 620 W. Veterans Parkway.

That Legends is a sports bar is obvious when you walk through the door.  You won’t find any fancy dishes on the menu here.  Sandwiches, hamburgers, wraps, and appetizers like wings, jalapeno poppers, fried mushrooms.  The food is well prepared, without being pretentious.  And they have a decent kids menu, full of foods that kids will actually eat and enjoy.  And did I mention the French fries?

With flat screen TV’s everywhere, there is not a bad seat in the house.  And if there is not a ball game on, a game of pool is always a good choice.  But my favorite part of Legends is the people.  The wait staff is fabulous, really outgoing, and the service is great.  But part of the fun is seeing who is in there today.  The attire on their patrons range from steel toed boots to business suits, but everyone seems to feel comfortable at Legends.  The dress code can best be described as “come as you are and hang out with us a while”.  And people do.

With windows around the outside of the restaurant, it is much better lit than similar restaurants I have seen.  And in the summer, a small patio lets you enjoy the weather outside as you have your meal and a drink.  The drink menu has something for just about everyone, from a draft beer to specialty drinks and martinis.  And best of all, the prices are reasonable for everything on their menu.  You won’t find a $15 hamburger here. 

Legends has good food, good prices, and a great atmosphere.  And did I mention the fries?
