Take Care of Yourself to Take Care of Others

Women have a habit of taking care of themselves after caring for everyone else...

With the This One's For the Girls event one week from today, Feb 23rd, I am getting more and more excited about it! I have an awesome give-away, a This One's For the Girls bag filled with a yoga mat, ear buds, a journal with pens, a candle, a drink, a travel hand sanitizer. Check out the photo! The event is free and each person receives an (empty :)) tote. Be sure to find me and enter the drawing for a tote filled with special treats. I also have Patch water bottles for the first 20 people who can tell me 3 signs of a heart attack in women-and Patch pens for everyone! Plus anything else I can think of (and pull off!) before next Saturday. (Kudos to my unbelievably creative client who offered to share her talents with me!)

Preparing for this event has me thinking again about how so many women I meet along my journey think so little of themselves. Some actually despise themselves, so.... sad. The majority, tho, fall into the "caregiver" category and don't think of themselves AT ALL! They put taking care of themselves at the bottom of the list-the bottom that never makes it to the top.

Besides my "big" talks, I have "mini-lectures" I give, too. :) One of them is for moms (and non-moms, too) who put everyone else before themselves. How can you "be there" for your family if your physical health prevents you from participating in their lives? I like to use the example of the pre-flight instructions on an airplane. The flight attendants tell you "If you are traveling with a child, put YOUR mask on first, and then help the child". What a great analogy, if I do say so myself!! Don't you want to be able run around with your kids? The most heartbreaking are the women that don't want to attend their children's events because they are embarrassed of how they look :(  Taking time for yourself to be physically and emotionally healthy is one of the best things you can do for your family!
