Camp Learn S’more is a yearlong initiative developed by the ACES school improvement team to increase reading during the 2013-2014 school year. Last year, using the similar initiative Aces Grows Readers we read over 12,000 books as a school. This year we hope to read even more. Our goal for this year is to read 3500 books every quarter for a total of 14,000 books for the year.
The goal of these initiatives is to improve reading skills as well as to create lifelong readers.
To help promote Camp Learn S’more, students will earn genre tags in the library, the school will host special Reading with Relatives events, as well as special reading days like Read the Most Coast to Coast. In addition, individual classroom teachers are creating enthusiasm through classroom challenges and special reading days. After all of these activities students can take an AR test that allows them to earn icons that will be used to create hallway “campsites.”
