The Illinois Alaskan Malamute Rescue Association (IAMRA) is in desperate need of foster homes for potential rescue dogs. IAMRA is is an all volunteer 501C3 charity that is dedicated to the welfare of a magnificent breed, the Alaskan Malamute. We are an affiliate of AMAL - Alaskan Malamute Assistance League, which is the recognized rescue of the Alaskan Malamute Club of America. As such, we are bound by a code of ethics and must follow rules and procedures in the adoption process. We provide assistance through dog rescue, foster and adoption, owner retention, and behavioral issues.
Our current foster homes are all full at this time and we are in dire need of more volunteers. We currently have a boy in need of rescue at a VERY HIGH KILL Chicago shelter. We can't pull him until we have a place for him to go, so we are reaching out to find foster home for him. He is an adult, but all Malamute - busy and large -about 85 lbs. He is beautiful and friendly so we hope he will get adopted quickly if we can save him. The need is urgent, he is in danger at the shelter so won't you please consider welcoming him into your home on a temporary basis?
About Fostering:
IAMRA will pay for all food and medical expenses for your foster. We have several veterinary clinics throughout the area that are familiar with working with IAMRA. The only items you must provide for your foster are food and water bowls, grooming supplies, and an identification tag that provides your contact information (you can even use one of your dog's extra tags). Any individual interested in adopting must first apply through IAMRA, go through our screening process, and have a home check completed. Only those applicants we deem suitable will meet your foster.
Most foster families will tell you stories of how they cried when their foster was adopted and sent them on their way. However, they will also tell you that it is an amazing feeling watching a dog start to bond with their new family, knowing this will be their family for the rest of their days. It is such a reward to be a part of this process, and an even bigger reward to get happy updates from the adoptive families, knowing you helped save a life. Many will tell you it is a life-changing experience.
