Drunken Driver Had Loaded Gun, Cocaine In Car: Yorkville Police

Yorkville police began investigating after seeing a "suspicious vehicle" in the parking lot of a closed business, officials said.

YORKVILLE, IL — A man, 24, was caught Sunday driving under the influence of alcohol while carrying a loaded gun and cocaine, Yorkville police said.

James T. Loucks, of Yorkville, is facing charges of DUI, aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance, the latter two counts being felonies, after police found him idling around 2 a.m. in a parking lot of a closed business in the 300 block of Bridge Street, according to a Monday news release.

Officers initiated the investigation after seeing a "suspicious vehicle" in the lot. They found Loucks sitting in the driver's seat with open alcohol containers in the car, police said.

While completing an inventory search of the car, officers found a loaded 9mm handgun in the driver's compartment as well as a white powdery substance that field-tested positive for cocaine, according to police.

Loucks was taken to the Kendall County jail ahead of a court appearance at 1 p.m. Monday.
