Historic Route 66: A Journey Through History

Join highway historian, Dave Clark, as he tells the story of Route 66 in pictures and music.  He will take the audience on a photographic road trip from the shores of Lake Michigan in Chicago to Santa Monica Blvd. and Ocean Ave. in California.  Since its founding in 1926, Route 66 has come to personify the mythic experience of the ultimate "American Road Trip".  Through eight states and three time zones, he will show everyone why Route 66 is still America's Mother Road.Dave Clark has been researching Illinois transportation history with an emphasis on Chicago's railroads and highways, publishing over two dozen articles and three books.  In addition to his writing, photography, and research, Dave conducts walking, driving, and bus tours, and presents many different slide shows and lectures throughout the Chicagoland area. This program, funded by the Friends of the Library, is free and open to the public.  No registration is required.
