George Floyd Protests: Yorkville Police Remaining Proactive

"We will continue to monitor the situation minute by minute as we have for the past couple of days," the Yorkville Police Department said.

YORKVILLE, IL—As violent protests persist across the nation - which has included the Chicago area - the Yorkville Police Department is working closely with other area law enforcement agencies to monitor and assist with incidents of civil unrest in neighboring communities.

"As of Monday evening, there have been a lot of rumors but no credible threats in the United City of Yorkville," the police department wrote on its official Facebook page.

The protests come more than a week after the death of George Floyd, 46, of Minneapolis. On May 25, former Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin placed his left knee in the area of Floyd's head and neck for about nine minutes as Floyd remained face down on the ground.
