Luella’s life-long vicious feud with the other first lady of gossip, Hedda Hopper, is a fascinating tale of competitive cat-fighting that just might slip into the discussion. At the peak of her career (1926-1964) her newspaper readership approached 20,000,000 in some 400 newspapers around the country.
