Grandfather Scammed into Paying 'Bail Bondsman' $2K in iTunes Gift Cards
A woman claiming to be the man's granddaughter said she was in an accident in another state.
YORKVILLE, IL — An elderly Yorkville man was scammed out of thousands after he received a call from his “granddaughter” asking for bail.
Yorkville police say the man, who lives in the 1900 block of Meadowlark Ct., received a phone call the morning of June 20 from his granddaughter saying she was in an accident in another state and needed $2,000 in the form of iTunes gift cards to be issued to a bail bondsman. The man then paid the amount.
“The next day the victim received another phone call stating he needed to pay another $3,000,” police said.

Before paying, the grandfather made contact with his granddaughter and learned that she was not out of state and had not been in an accident.
The police were contacted to report the initial loss of money.
