Kendall County Sergeants Graduate from Command Program

Study topics included leadership, human resources, employee relations, organizational behavior and applied statistics.

Two sergeants with the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office have graduated from Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command.

Sergeant William Craig and Sergeant Jason Langston completed a ten (10) week leadership training program held in Plainfield, Illinois from January 4 through May 6. This program, which was implemented by the Center for Public Safety in 1983, has graduated over 14,000 students both nationally and internationally, according to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office.

Sergeant William Craig and Sergeant Jason Langston were students in SPSC Class 389. The School of Police Staff and Command provides upper-level college instruction in a total of twenty-seven core blocks of instruction and additional optional blocks during each session.

The major topics of study include: leadership, human resources, employee relations, organizational behavior, applied statistics, planning and policy development, budgeting and resource allocation.

Each student is academically challenged through written examinations, projects, presentations, and a staff study paper that are all required parts of the curriculum.

Sergeant William Craig has worked in the Correction’s Division for 10 years. He served in the United States Army for 21 years. In addition to supervising correction’s deputies, he is also master firearms instructor and the commander for the Correction’s Emergency Response Team.

Sergeant Jason Langston has worked in the Operations Division for over 15 years. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Aurora University. In addition to supervising patrol deputies, Sergeant Langston is the traffic unit supervisor.

“Sergeant Craig and Sergeant Langston have shown leadership qualities throughout the sheriff’s office. Providing training to these leaders not only enhances their own abilities, but increases the overall effectiveness of our office and service to the community,” Kendall County Sheriff Dwight Baird said.
