Kendall County Sheriff's Office Commander Graduates from Homeland Security Academy

Commander Mike Peters is a 15-year veteran of the sheriff's office.

Kendall County Sheriff’s Office Commander Mike Peters has received a Certificate of Graduation from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers after completing the Homeland Security Leadership Academy conducted at a training center in Georgia.

Attendees included law enforcement executives from over 22 state, local and territorial police and sheriff agencies, according to a news release from the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office.

Commander Peters, a 15 year veteran of the sheriff’s office, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northern Illinois University. Commander Peters is a graduate of the Northwestern University’s Center for Public Safety Executive Management Program and School of Police Staff and Command and the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board Executive Institute executive development program Police Executive Role in the 21st Century.

The HSLA is a two-week professional development and leadership training program designed for law enforcement executives. It is the result of collaboration between FLETC and the National Sheriffs’ Association.

Some of the topics covered included: leadership in a crisis, the art of perception, exemplary leadership, emotional intelligence and ethics in leadership.
