'Loud Explosion' Near Yorkville Was Legal Explosive: Sheriff
Police received calls about the explosion on Saturday afternoon.

YORKVILLE, IL — A "loud explosion" that prompted some residents to call police was caused by a legal explosive used in firearms practice, according to the Kendall County Sheriff's Office. Police received several calls just after 4:30 p.m. Saturday reporting a blast in the area of Route 71 and Timbercreek Drive.
"Upon further investigation it was revealed that the explosion was from an exploding target commonly referred to as Tannerite," police said.
The sheriff's office took the opportunity to remind residents of the dangers of exploding targets.

"Although they are legal to own, detonation of explosives can be very dangerous, and any damage that is caused as a result of the explosion may result in criminal charges," police said.
