Man Denies Telling Kids War Stories, Offering To Teach Them To Tackle

A group of kids claimed a man told them Army stories and invited them to meet him by a creek in Yorkville.

YORKVILLE, IL — Yorkville police said no charges will be filed after a group of juveniles claimed a man approached them in a Yorkville park on Monday, told them graphic war stories and invited them to meet him by a creek to "learn to tackle."

The juveniles told police they were playing at a park in the 1700 block of John Street at around 2 p.m. Monday when a man approached them and started telling them stories about his time in the Army, according to WSPY.

They also claimed that he said if they wanted to learn how to tackle, they should meet him near a creek in the west area of the park, police said. (For more information on this and other neighborhood stories, subscribe to Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

On Wednesday, a man who identified himself as the person who spoke to the kids met with police and said he approached the kids after seeing an altercation occurring among them. He told police he spoke to the children about their behavior, and said that while he did offer for them to play with his own children near his home, he never told them graphic war stories or offered to teach them to tackle.

Police said the man was cooperative with the investigation and no charges will be filed.
