"A Night of Broadway" - Fox Country Players' 5th Annual Benefit Concert!
Yorkville theatre troupe celebrates the Golden Age of Broadway musicals with a fantastic cabaret show!
Yorkville’s Fox Country Players is hosting its 5th Annual Benefit Concert, “A Night of Broadway”, Saturday, February 6th, 2016 in support of its Theatre Arts Academy! This year the cast will focus on the Golden Age of Broadway, performing songs from the 1940’s, 1950’s and 1960’s. The cast is the largest Fox Country Players has involved in this project and features talented local and professional artists from all over the Chicagoland area.
Directed by Meg McGarry, the show highlights some of the best of Broadway’s old favorites, accompanied by Music Director Nan Grommes. Composers include Rodgers and Hammerstein, Cole Porter, Kander and Ebb, Lerner and Loewe and many more! This era is widely considered the core of musical theatre repertory. There’s something for everyone in our concert, featuring musicals such as Oklahoma, Kiss Me Kate, The Music Man, Fiddler on the Roof, Guys and Dolls and much, much more! You’re sure to leave with a smile on your face, humming your favorite showtunes!
A silent auction begins the festivities at 6pm and continues through intermission. Wonderful items from local businesses, including area theatre tickets, gift certificates and more will be available for bids. All proceeds go to Fox Country Players’ summer theatre programming for children. Theatre Arts Academy allows area youth (K-12) the opportunity to learn all aspects of theatre, from designing set pieces or costumes, to backstage crew teamwork and of course, performing on stage! Theatre Arts Academy will be hosted this year for the first time by Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove as part of an ongoing partnership with Fox Country Players (FCP). Last fall the musical Oliver! was produced on their beautiful stage and everyone is very excited about the opportunity to utilize the facility for Academy this year. In order to provide affordable tuition to participants, FCP produces this benefit concert yearly to help cover the costs involved in running a multiple weeks-long workshop. Please come support local arts programming for the next generation of young artists!
