Parkway Tree Pruning to Begin Feb. 11

City encourages any holiday decorations to be removed from parkway trees prior to the start of city trimming.

Parkway tree trimming is expected to begin Feb. 11.

Public works officials are asking residents to ensure any holiday lights and decorations are removed from the trees prior to the start of trimming. If lights and decorations remain in the trees, public works officials said the city is not responsible for any damage to those items, according to a press release.

Tree trimming will begin at a minimum height of 7 feet over sidewalks and 13 feet over streets. The trimming will allow unobstructed pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Trimming is performed in winter while the trees are dormant, which allows for less adverse effects than if the tree was actively growing.

Additional reasons to prune in winter include a lack of leaves makes it easier for crews to determine which branches to trim and pruned areas tend to recover before new growth in the spring.
