Photo: Cross Lutheran Wins Cross Country State Title
The girls team and two members of the boys team are heading to nationals.

The Cross Lutheran girls cross country team won the LSA state championship meet this past weekend in Bloomington, IL. The Crusaders had a solid pack placing 7 runners in the top 20, led by eighth grader Kiley Haug who placed 2nd overall. Haug was followed by Alexandria Weyrich (4th), Lauren Daffenberg (10th), Nicole Greyer (11th), Stephanie Schlichting (13th), Kelly Knauf (15th), Ava Weyrich (17th), and McKenzie Lux (81st) in a field of 118 runners. Cross scored 40 points to win the meet, while Palatine Immanuel placed second with 66, and Morton Bethel was third with 71. The Cross Lutheran girls will travel to Mequon, Wisconsin next weekend to compete in the National Lutheran Cross Country Championships. Joining the girls’ team will be two members of the boys’ team: seventh grader Nick Shanks, and sixth grader Zach Rice who qualified for the national meet as individuals based on their finishes at the state meet. Shanks claimed a spot by being the 5th place individual in the7/8 grade division, while Rice finished 4th in the 5/6 division.
