Police Stepping Up Enforcement in Work Zones

Officers and deputies will spend extra time in construction zones beginning Monday, July 6.

Multiple law enforcement agencies will participate in a collective traffic enforcement effort focusing on traffic violations occurring in roadway construction zones Monday, July 6, according to a joint press release from the Oswego and Yorkville Police Departments and the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers and deputies will spend extra time in construction zones and motorists can expect to encounter more police officers and traffic stops in an effort to reduce violations, specifically speeding and use of electronics, including cell phones.

According to the release, motorists are more likely to be the victim in a work zone crash instead of a worker. On average, there are more than 4,000 work zone motor vehicle crashes a year in Illinois, resulting in more than 1,000 injuries and 29 fatalities with an average of three worker fatalities. A driver’s undivided attention is crucial when traveling through roadway construction and maintenance work zones.
