Police Take Possibly Suicidal Man into Custody

The man fired two gunshots when police arrived and was later taken to Presence Mercy for evaluation.

A man who police believe may have been suicidal was taken into custody Sunday afternoon, according to a release from the Montgomery Police Department.

Police were called to the 2400 block of Riva Ridge at around 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23 for a possible suicidal man. When officers arrived, they heard two gunshots coming from the home.

Montgomery police requested additional units to help secure the area and to evacuate residents near the home.

Police attempted to make contact with the man via cell phone several times, but the man would answer the phone and then hang up immediately.

After 90 minutes, the man came out from the back of the home and was taken into custody without incident. One shotgun and multiple shotgun rounds were taken from the home.

The man was taken to the Rush-Copley Medical Center by the Oswego Fire Department and was later taken to Presence Mercy for evaluation. Police are currently talking to family members and witnesses and no further information is available at this time.

Montgomery Police were assisted by the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, the Oswego Police Department, Kendall County Search and Rescue Team and the Oswego Fire Department.
