Raging Waves Aids Project Just Start in Backpack Collection

(Yorkville, IL) August xx, 2015 – For the donation of a gently-used backpack, patrons of Raging Waves Waterpark receive five dollars off their admission and help a child in need at the same time! Raging Waves is now helping the non-profit organization Project Just Start to collect gently-used backpacks for this school year. The park has already collected 300 donated backpacks and hopes to see even more before the season’s end on Labor Day.

“It’s amazing how many local children don’t have what they need to go to school,” says Dawn Witt, co-founder of Raging Waves. “We try to do everything we can to support the local community. We love them, and they’re very important to us.”

Project Just Start provides backpacks full of school supplies to children within ten local communities: Hanover Park, Roselle, Bartlett, Medinah, Carol Stream, Bloomingdale, Glendale Heights, Addison, and Wood Dale. Over the past three years, the organization has provided about 4,000 fully loaded backpacks to 41 different schools. Project Just Start believes that all children, especially those 23,000 living in poverty within their service area, should have the tools they need for a successful school year.

In 2014, Raging Waves collected a total of 315 backpacks for Project Just Start. With the cool start to the summer, the donations have been lighter this year, but with the summer weather finally heating up, Raging Waves is hopeful donations will increase through the end of the season. Their goal is to make a significant dent in Project Just Start’s goal to collect 2,500 backpacks this year.
