Scammers Pretending to be with Kendall County Sheriff's Office

The scammers call residents and ask them to call a different number or risk being arrested.

Scammers pretending to be with the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office have been calling residents and stating that a “complaint had been filed with the IRS” and to call a different phone number back or risk being arrested.

The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office phone number may be displayed on the caller ID, presumably by utilizing a common tactic among scammers called “Spoofing,” where through computer software; a specific telephone number will be displayed on the recipient’s caller ID.

The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office is aware of the scam and would like residents to know that phone calls regarding “IRS complaints” are never handled by the sheriff’s office. Personal information should never be given out over the phone. Police would also like to remind citizens that sheriff’s office personnel will never request money over the phone.

Should citizens receive a phone call from an individual claiming to be with the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office regarding IRS business, contact its office immediately at 630-553-5856 to verify the authenticity of the deputy contacting them.
